Over the years we have made the journey many times to the hospital. Thankfully in recent years most of these trips have been for check ups and consultations rather than the previous mad dashes when we were desperate to control 15′s seizures.

Today’s appointment was something new. A long shot to see if some tests could shed light on the cause of 15′s epilepsy.

At one time we looked on all appointments with dread, not because of what we might learn or even what might be involved in the investigation but because we knew that we would have trouble. We would have trouble getting to the appointment, even the ones in our own town, we would have trouble during any waiting period and we would have trouble during the consultation. It didn’t make for a peaceful time for any of us.

What a difference we had today. Songs on the way to the hospital. A pleasant walk to the clinic. A happy girl sitting in the waiting room, looking at magazines and talking to us.
Today’s consultation was almost two hours long and ended with a blood test. I am going to admit that it may well have helped that we didn’t know at the outset that the bloods would be taken today. Our lack of stress no doubt helped 15 stay calm. It also helped that the consultant was willing to be led by our advice to leave the bloods to the end.
I am so proud of 15 today. I am also totally amazed at how far she has come in two years.

I joked at the end that they should write to 15′s neurologist and tell her how peacefully the appointment had passed but that she might want evidence they had seen the same child.

We have no idea if these tests will help us learn more about the cause of 15′s epilepsy but at least we will have tried and that has to be something.

As a reward for being such a good patient 15 wanted a cup of tea. One thing that won’t need to be tested is if she really is our daughter.

Now we are all safely returned home to enjoy our afternoon together. 15′s school is closed to pupils today for a teacher training day so we had no need to debate whether or not to send her in for the afternoon or allow her to stay her with me.
I love it when an issue solves itself.
I hope your Friday brings good things.
